Swaggerfall is a first-person open world fantasy RPG that plays in the terminal. The graphics are ascii based and limited to what the command line offers (luckily this includes background colors for text glyphs). Despite the retro look and procedural generation à la Daggerfall, the game draws a lot of inspiration from modern games like Skyrim (UX) and Expedition 33 (turn based combat with quick time events). You only need a handful of keys to control the game. The E key alone has dozens of meanings based on the current context. TAB brings up an action menu that lets you enter all screens the game has to offer, and also lists their keybinds (if you're more the piano type). Every action grants xp: Sprinting, Jumping, Climbing, Mining, Smelting, Cooking... even Eating. Fighting enemies will not only grant xp in the skills you use, but will also teach you more about the enemy race, which makes combat easier and opens up more interactions (e.g. if you fought enough of an enemy type, you can tell them to leave you alone). Be the source of rumors. As you act in the world, rumors spread through the world at a fixed speed. "Did you hear about the stranger who slayed an army of minotaurs? Some say it was just a group of catgirls." The game is currently in Alpha status and will take another 6-12 months of development to reach a 1.0 release. However it is a coherent playable experience already. By buying it on itch you will get access to all future builds.

FrogAA is a free browser MMO about getting to the top of the swamp. You make a frog, you train it, and you spend the rest of your time proving it against other players. Train at the gym to push your stats, take fights to earn experience, and level into gear and opponents that were out of reach a week ago. The Battle Complex finds you opponents near your strength. Fishing is its own long game, with species that sit in specific waters. Guilds are where most of the ambition ends up: pool resources, equip your members, and compete as a unit. Underneath that sits a full economy: jobs and businesses, the marketplace, the bank and stock exchange, a persistent 3D voxel world to mine and craft in, university study that gates what you can do, pets to raise between fights.

RuneClicker is a free idle RPG that runs in your browser. You pick something to train, it runs while you do other things, and what you gather feeds back into the rest of the game. There are 24 skills to take from level 1 to 99. Woodcutting, Fishing, Mining, Smithing, Runecrafting, Farming and the rest each have their own methods that unlock as you level, and the outputs chain together. Ore becomes bars, bars become gear, herbs become potions. There are 160 quests with real requirements and rewards, 40 bosses with their own drop tables, and clue scrolls in six difficulties from beginner to master. Gear you find can be equipped, banked or sold. Everyone plays on one shared server. There is global chat, leaderboards, a player marketplace, direct trading, mail and clans. Achievements are announced to the whole server when you earn them. Your character keeps training for up to 12 hours after you log out, scaled by your Agility level. Two harder modes are available. Ironman blocks trading and the marketplace, so everything you use you made yourself. Hardcore ends the run when you die. Membership is optional and costs $2.99 a month for one character, $5.99 a month for the whole account, or $59.99 for the year. It adds convenience and cosmetics. Everything that matters for progression is in the free game.

Mimic2 is a free idle MMORPG for players who miss old-school grinding but don't want to spend all day staring at the screen. Choose a map, start auto battling, and close the game. Your character keeps fighting while you're AFK, offline, or asleep. When you return, collect your loot, upgrade your character, and move on to stronger enemies. There are no ads, purchases, premium currencies, energy systems, or paid shortcuts or P2W. Everything in Mimic2 is earned by playing. The grind Farm mimics for equipment and upgrade materials, improve your damage, and unlock increasingly difficult maps. Mimic2 currently has 9 maps with up to 4 difficulty tiers each that will require months of gameplay time to reach the top. Your damage may begin in the hundreds of thousands, but a developed character can eventually reach the quadrillions. Bosses have a respawn period of between one and six hours and require you to check the game between their respawn times. There are 40 bosses across six elements that will drop the unique loot if you are lucky enough. Build your character - The game currently contains 7,752 item levels and 323 unique equippable items, 831 quests, a pet, mount and helper shaman system and much more. The game features 296 real teams across 12 leagues (including the NHL, AHL, CHL, USHL, NCAA, and European leagues like the SHL and Liiga). I tried to model real contract logic, so you'll navigate Entry-Level Contracts, Restricted Free Agency (with binding arbitration and offer sheets), UFA negotiations, trade demands, waivers, and the 9-game junior rule. Teams will even adjust their contract offers based on whether they are a Cup contender or a rebuilder. You'll also need to handle press conferences by reading the room, manage relationships with your coach and the media, spend your contract money on private trainers, and grow your Fan Idolatry from a total unknown to a generational icon. You aren't just clicking "Sim." High-leverage moments trigger skill-based minigames tailored to your position (like tipping pucks in front of the net, taking a VO2 Max test, or testing your goalie reflexes at the Draft Combine). Every career ends with a detailed Hall of Fame recap, logging all your stats, international medals, and a final "Career Score" based on your legacy, so you can keep track of your legendary careers!
