So most of the time you find people by sound instead. Hearing is omnidirectional and walls only muffle it, which means you usually know someone is there before you know where. Everything you carry is priced in visibility. A flare lights the room and lights you in it. A shield soaks damage and glows while it does. Firing pins your exact position.
